The attractions along the way
The route guides you between the Sasso Caveoso and the Sasso Barisano, the two ancient districts of cave-houses, up to the Cathedral that dominates the city from the height of the Civita. As you walk you encounter the frescoed rock churches, the belvederes overlooking the Gravina, the cistern of the Palombaro Lungo and the dwellings carved out of the rock that tell of a thousand-year-old way of life.
History and culture, experienced through play
Matera was inhabited from the Palaeolithic in its natural caves, and the Sassi remained continuously inhabited for millennia. In the twentieth century they became a symbol of poverty, but today they are reborn, and in 2019 Matera was European Capital of Culture. Through play you cross this extraordinary history.
